Dog clothing fits best when you start with back length, then check chest room for comfort and movement. Use this guide before choosing a Lucky Pup tee, hoodie or jacket.
How to measure
- Back length: measure from the base of the collar to the base of the tail while your dog is standing.
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the rib cage.
- Comfort room: allow space for walking, sitting and curling up.
- Shape check: broad chested, long backed or very fluffy dogs may need extra room.
If your dog is between sizes
Choose the size that gives the most comfortable chest room without swamping the back length. For thicker layers such as hoodies, puffers and parkas, a little extra room is better than a tight fit.

Style fit notes
- Raglan tee: light everyday layer. Keep the fit comfortable rather than tight.
- Football tee: sporty, lightweight layer with the widest size availability.
- Hoodie: allow a touch more room for movement and warmth.
- Denim jacket or varsity jacket: check chest room before choosing the neatest back length.
- Puffer or parka: warm outerwear. Avoid sizing down.
Care basics
